Mount Eerie is Phil Elvrum. 1998 - 2002 he was The Microphones. Since then he has been Mount Eerie. Elvrum is considered one of the most original and important musicians on today´s independent music scene, a unique song writer and sound wizard. Growing up in Anacortes a small town in the state of Washington in the north west corner of USA, young Phil Elvrum went swimming in the sea and hiking in the wilderness. Here he developed his sense of personal coherence with the mountains, the moon and the universe that would sooner become main themes in his musical production. Little would he know that in years to come his person would become one of the synonyms to American independent music and that his future records under the pseudonyms of The Microphones and Mount Eerie would become some of the most fan worshipped and critically acclaimed releases on the American independent scene.
After having put out minor cassette releases and 7 inch records on a small local label the signing with major player K Records (Beck, Modest Mouse, Beat Happening) in 1999 was where it all began for Elvrum. The legendary Washington based indie label believed in the teenager with the guitar, the wildly bombastic home studio productions and the amazing voice. Just a couple of years later Phil Elvrum had released 3 The Microphones albums, which are today all considered modern indie rock classics, not least his third album The Glow Pt. 2 which earned Elvrum and ´The Microphones´ Amazon.com´s Independent Album of the Year praise at the same time as it was being proclaimed Record of the Year by major indie magazine Pitchfork.
